A weekly newsletter documenting the public build of a permanent capital holding company.
About
INTRODUCTION
Charted Holdings is the public build of a permanent capital holding company constructed from scratch. I know this project is ambitious, but that’s what makes it so exciting. Well that, and this business model happens to marry my two greatest fascinations: business ownership and financial markets.
HOW I GOT HERE
I spent a decade of my life focused on those two subjects. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Innovation & Entrepreneurship I did a short stint in sales before spending the next six years day trading stocks, options and futures.
In 2025 I exclusively traded, MES, the Micro E-mini S&P 500 index futures. My account grew by 14.4% that year, but MES itself returned 15.9% over the same period. I realize that even though I was a profitable day trader I would have been better off buying MES at the start of year and holding it for the long-term. Not to mention this approach would have been far less stressful and time-consuming. So I switched my focus to investing rather than speculating. That shift is what led me here.
I’m by no means claiming to be an experienced analyst, investor or business owner. Not yet. But I am becoming one and the evidence lives in the newsletter archive.
THE MISSION
My mission is to build a permanent capital holding company. A business that owns great businesses and great investments indefinitely, as Berkshire Hathaway does, only at a scale that matches my current skill set. I may never operate at that size, but that’s not what matters, what matters is the model.
Getting there requires a specific set of skills most of which I do not have yet but am building deliberately, one at a time, in public, for anyone to see. Those skills are as follows:
Mindset - developing the mental framework essential to long-term investing
Idea Generation - finding businesses and opportunities worth a closer look
Research & Analysis - understanding what a business is worth and why
Capital Allocation & Risk Management - deciding where capital is deployed, how much, and what could go wrong
Execution - acting on conviction
Portfolio Management - managing investments over time
Acquisitions - transitioning from owning shares of businesses to owning businesses outright
Business Management - operating and growing what's been acquired
Every issue of this newsletter lives somewhere in that list. My intention is to be as transparent as possible about how I’m developing these skills and why each one is an essential piece of the puzzle in executing this mission.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This newsletter is free, published weekly, and serves as the primary record of this build. Every step from developing the right mindset to the first acquisition and beyond is shared here in the order it actually occurs.
As the archive grows, so will a library of full investment memos: real, in-depth research on companies I've analyzed and, in most cases, ultimately passed on. Not because they're bad businesses, but because the standard for actually deploying capital is high, and most research doesn't clear it.
Everything documented in the newsletter will also be compiled into a structured, self-paced course providing a clear path to follow for anyone who wants to build something like this themselves, without waiting for it in weekly installments.
None of this is financial advice. It's a record of one person learning to allocate capital, acquire businesses, and build a permanent capital holding company.
If that sounds interesting to you, then you’re in the right place.
